The first change I would make is to not end the game when the first person crosses the finish line, but to have both players cross and have the first person who crosses gets 10 points and second place gets 5 points. I would then add a system that allows you to take the pieces that swap places with others. When you land on the same spot as someone else, both players will roll the fingers, and if the one that is supposed to swap rolls a higher number than the person defending, they get to remove that piece off the board. To add onto this rule, each piece the player has once they finish the game will add 2 points to their score. The third enhancement I would make is to add another house that would allow you to add a piece back to the board if you are missing one. This would be only activated once per game and only activates if you roll a 1 or 5. I have added an example of where this house would be placed.
