After doing some research into design and game design, I seem to have a pretty good concept on why it is important. When it comes to video game design, it dictates almost the entire experience and flow of the game. Things like ux/ui design, level design, character design, and sound design are what really immerses the player into the intended experience of the game. For example, if you are building a game set in a cyberpunk reality, you would want close knit levels with futuristic characters and a grungy, metal sound design to draw the player into the atmosphere of the game.
To me, design is the most interesting part of making a video game. Every part of design might not be equally as apparent, but they are all equally important. If we take a look at the game Just Cause 3, it blends all of these aspects extremely well to create a very fluid and enjoyable experience. The level design accommodates the wingsuit and parachute very well, the character design lead to a very memorable main character, the sound design made the explosions and gunfire impactful, and the ui design fit the theme of the game very well. While design encompasses many things, each aspect ot it is essential to building an enjoyable experience for the player and are very interesting in their own regard.
